A nationally prominent javelin thrower, he was the first Delawarean to finish second in an IC4A event, in 1955. He was a high-level achiever in four field events.

While attending Wilmington High School he was New Castle County champion in high jump, discus and javelin in 1952.
He was Delaware’s second 6-foot high school high jumper, he held the state high school record (6 feet ⅞ inches) for five years.

He high-jumped 6-2 at the 1952 State Open to set a meet record that stood until it was broken by Chris Dunn in 1968.
While attending La Salle College he threw the javelin 192-5 at the IC4A championship meet in 1955, to finish second to teammate Al Cantello (named the best American javelin thrower ever by Sport magazine in 1962).

He became the first Delaware performer to finish as high as second in the meet, begun in 1876.

He won the high jump, discus and javelin at the 1955 Delaware AAU State Open, finishing second in the shot put.
He finished second in the javelin, fourth in the high jump, fourth in the discus at the 16-school Middle Atlantic Conference meet in 1955.

Sandy Gibney

A multi-sport athlete who turned her focus to distance running, she became an all-American and multi-event record-setter at University of Delaware.

While attending the University of Delaware she was an All-American in cross country, finishing 16th in the 1981 AIAW Division Two championship, running 19.06 in a 20-mile/hour wind in Pocatello, Idaho.

She set university records in nine events, including 800 meters, 3000 meters, 5000 meters two-mile and three miles.
She became the first Blue Hen woman to qualify for a national championship cross country championship meet in 1980, finishing 29th in the NCAA Division Two meet.

She qualified for the national (AIAW) 5000 championship meet as a frosh in 1980 (16:53)

She won the 1982 Pepsi Challenge 10,000-meters against a national field over 1,000- runners in Fairmount Park (35:24)

She was inducted into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.

Dan Foran

A record-setting two-miler at Mount Pleasant, he was an all-conference distance runner at Virginia Tech, and continued championship-level running for the next 10 years.

While attending Mount Pleasant High School he competed in Cross Country where he went undefeated in Delaware as a senior (1983), he finished second at the Golden Apple Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park (16:07), set course records at Brandywine Creek (16:14.5) and Bellevue (15:46), and won Division 2 at Killens Pond, with the best time (16:07) in either division.

In Track he was a Three-time Division Two champion at 3200 meters. Set state record of 9:21.4 as junior in 1982 (broken by .01 second by Eric Hamilton at the Meet of Champions a week later, Foran second).

He was undefeated as senior at 3200 meters in 1984, he finished fifth at Penn Relays in the 3000 meters in 8:39.6, still eighth on the Delaware high school all-time list.

He attended Virginia Tech and ran Cross country where he was named All Conference in 1985, team MVP in 1988. Member of three Metro Collegiate Athletic Conference championship teams (1985, 1986, 1988), he missed the 1987 meet with an injury.

In 1987 he won the Delaware Open Cross-Country Championship in Brandywine Creek record (15:26).
As a senior in 1989, he was Virginia State outdoor 5000-meter champion and ran times of 14:10.2 (5000 in the Mt. Sac Relays), 8:14.6 (3000 at the Pepsi Indoor Invitational; 3:52.4 (1500 meters) and 1:52.3 (800), both at the Virginia Indoor Championships

Dan continued to run after college. He won 1992 Caesar Rodney Half Marathon in snow, sleet and wind, finishing in 1:08:02. Only five winners had ever run the 13 miles, 193 yards faster.

He finished fourth in the 1996 Philadelphia Marathon, his only marathon, with a time (2:31.02) in the Top 10 of Delaware marathoners.

In 1998 age of 33, won three gold medals at the Gay Games in Amsterdam – at 1500, 5000 and 10,000 meters, winning the award for “Most Outstanding Performance in Men’s Track & Field”.

Nikko Brady

Nikko Brady was a three times statewide MVP, state champion in the high hurdles three times and in the long jump four times at Charter School of Wilmington, she was all-conference four years at Boston University.

While attending Charter School of Wilmington she was the State outdoors MVP in 2007 and indoors as a sophomore and junior in 2007 and 2008. She won three events, placing in a fourth, to lead Charter to its first state championship in 2009. She was a three times State Meet of Champions winner at the 100-meter hur-dles, where she ran the seventh fastest time in state history (14.37) after sophomore year at Nike Outdoor Nationals. She was also a four-time long jump winner at Meet of Champions, with second longest (18-10) all-time. Also Meet of Champions winner in the triple jump in 2009, when she won three events.

While attending Boston University she was a four-time conference champion who qualified for NCAA regionals three times. Was elected America East Rookie of the Year in 2010, winning league title at 55 hurdles (8.04) and long jump (19-0), with top-five finishes in 60-meter hurdles and long jump at the ECAC Champion-ships.

As sophomore, top-five in the ECAC 60-meter hurdles and long jump, second in the America East 60-meter hurdles and third in the long jump. At the outdoor ECAC meet, 8th in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump.

As junior, won the America East 60-meter hurdles (8.64) and second in the long jump (19-¾). Took sixth in 60-meter hurdles 8.62 at the ECAC Championships.

As senior indoors, fourth in the long jump at ECAC Championships, third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.65) and fourth in the long jump at the New England Championships. Also as senior, won the Penn Relays Eastern long jump in 20-4½, second best in university history.

Daniella Bailey

One of Delaware’s top track athlete as a junior and a senior, graduating from Christiana High School with four state records, she was an outstanding collegiate quarter-miler.

While attending Christiana High School in 2000 and 2001 she was awarded the Outdoor statewide female track Athlete of the Year – by the N5CTA and Gatorade. She was also awarded the 2000 and 2001 Indoor statewide female track Athlete of the Year.

She swept the 100, 200 and 400 at the 2001 State Meet of Champions. She set state record in the 100, was second all-time in the 200 and 400. She anchored the state record-setting teams at 4×100 and 4×200.

She was the State’s fastest in the 100 for three years & state’s fastest in 200 and 400 two years. She set state indoor records in the 55-meters, 60-meters and 200 meters. Graduated as second fastest all-time in the 400. Her state records in the 55 and 60 lasted until 16 years later. She was recognized as a High School All-American in the indoor 60-meters and outdoor 100-meters (2000) and indoor 60-meters and 200-meters (2001).

While attending the University of Miami in 2006) she ran the second leg of university record indoor distance medley relay team. Was a member of the Florida Intercollegiate champion 4×400-meter relay team and ran the opening leg of 4×400-meter relay that won the Pepsi Invitational title.

While attending Seton Hall (2002-03) she was a member of Big East indoor 4×400 relay champion team (2002) and earned championship points by placing fifth in the Big East indoor 400 (2002).
