His athletes were not just competitors; they were champions. Under his coaching guidance for 16 years, 10 individuals’ throwers won state titles, with several earning national titles. He coached numerous thrower who placed in County & State meets. One thrower Rayshawn White was shot-put national runner-up outdoors, Chris White placed 4th in the shot-put in the Nike indoor national meet. Bradley also coached several throwers who earned medals competing in the Penn Relays.
These achievements are testament to his skill as a coach and his ability to inspire excellence. Brad’s peers regarded him as one of the best throwing coaches in the state, a recognition that was well-deserved.
Some of the most notable athletes who thrived under Brad’s coaching include:
- Rayshawn White former state record holder in women’s shot put and a multiple-time state champion.
- Ean Rose A several-time state champion who continued his athletic career at Delaware State University.

Brad’s impact extended beyond individual achievements. In 1996, when his team won the state championship, the throwers alone contributed 46 points on the men’s side. The Colonial’s girl team totaled 40 points in the same field events as the men’s team. Then William Penn Head Coach Rod Lambert credited his assistant (Brad Lane) for the key performances.
Consistently, year after year, the team benefited from a reliable 15-20 points, thanks to the strength of the throwing squad.
Brad Lane’s career is more than just a collection of victories and records; it’s a legacy of excellence, dedication, and the ability to elevate those around him to achieve their best. His retirement marks the end of an era, but the impact of his coaching will be felt for generations to come.
