Edith Lewis Victor

Edith dominated the triple jump and was a member of the record breaking relays teams.

In High School Edith attended William Penn High School where she excelled. As a Junior Edith was first team all-state in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, and triple jump. At the 1998 State Outdoor Championships she placed 1st in the triple jump (37’3 1/4) and she ran 2nd leg on the relays which set state records in the 4×100 (48.54) and 4×200 (1:42.00). As a Senior Edith was a repeating State Champion in the triple jump and placed 1st in either divisions. Also, she ran on the indoor state champion 4×200 relay team. Edith graduated with the 4th best triple jump in state history with a mark of 38’2.

Upon graduation from William Penn, Edith earned a full Track and Field scholarship to Temple University. She was 9-time First Team Atlantic 10 Conference and 3-time Second Team Atlantic 10 Conference as a sprinter/jumper. Edith ran legs on the Owls’ 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 relay teams. In 2003, as a senior, she was voted as the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Indoor Championships by placing first in the triple jump in 40’5 1/2 and fourth in the long jump. At the ECAC Championships Edith placed 4th with a mark of 40’8, which broke the A-10 triple jump record and is the indoor record at Temple University.

Craig Holm

Craig HolmHall of Fame induction: 2019

Graduated from Thomas McKean HS in 1972. Captain of cross country, track teams. State champion in mile – best time 4:25; and half mile – best time 2:00.4. Small school division at state meet.

Cornell University (graduated 1976). Captain of cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams. All Ivy awards in cross and track. College bests: 4:09 (mile). 8:56 (2 mile). 14:13 (5k).

Qualified and competed in 3 U.S. Olympic Trials marathons (1980, 1984, 1988)

Set NJ State record for New Jersey marathon (1979-2:17:02)

Set a personal best in the Marathon – 2:14:43 (Chicago – 1985)

John (Jack) P Garniewski, Jr

John (Jack) P Garniewski JrHall of Fame induction: 2019

Jack attended Salesianum and was coached by Father Beattie. In 1970 and 1971 he was the Delaware State champion in the 440. In 1971, at the Philadelphia Classic High School Championship held at Franklin Field, Jack won the 440 with a time of 48.6 that remains as a record today at Salesianum. He was the 440 Delaware Junior Olympic Champion in 1970 and 1971 and the Mid-Atlantic Junior Olympic Champion in 1971. He was co-captain of Salesianum when it won its first outdoor State championship in 1971. Jack was selected as the “Most Outstanding Athlete” in his junior and senior years at Salesianum.

Jack attended Villanova University and was coached by Jumbo Elliott. Jack anchored the mile relay team for three years. During the 1973 outdoor season, Jack ran a 48.6 on Villanova’s Distant Medley Championship of America team at the Penn Relay’s. During the 1974 indoor track season, Jack was a member of the winning Millrose Games Mile relay team (3:24:00) and was also a member of the relay team that won the Philadelphia Track Classic Distance Medley (9:56:4). He received the Coach’s Award for Dedication his senior year.

John David Carroll

Was one of Delaware’s most dominant high school high jumper, whose state record has lasted longer than any other record in any event and became one of the best high jumpers in University of Delaware annals.

While attending Tower Hill High School in 1981 John jumped 6 feet 11¼ inches at the Division 2 state championship meet and set the outdoor high school mark that has endured since. Earlier that spring, broke records in every major state meet by jumping 6’9” at the Howard Relays, 6’10” at the Dover Relays, 6’8¾” at the New Castle County Meet and at the Independent Conference meet, 6’8¼” and jumped 6’10” at the state Meet of Champions. Additionally, he won the Greater Philadelphia Coaches Meet in the high jump. During his career he exceeded 6’8” in seven major meets. Only seven other jumpers have ever done so once.

While attending the University of Delaware he jumped 6’6″ outdoors as a junior in 1985 and 6’9¾” as a senior indoors at the Princeton Relays in 1986.

John S. Yasik

John attended Archmere Academy, where he earned 4 Track & Field letters as a runner and pole vaulter. He established a school record, which still stands, of 4:16.8 in the 1500 M at the 1976 New Castle County T&F Championships. That year he ran anchor on the school’s record-setting team in the Two-Mile Relay. Also, in 1976, John was the State of Delaware Junior Olympic Champion in the Mile run and was named to the Coach & Athlete Prep Track & Field Athlete of the Year team. As a junior, John won 9 of 10 dual meets. He was runner-up in the New Castle County XC Championships in 1975, 1976, and earned the bronze medal at the 1975 State XC Championships. He was named to All Catholic teams in 1975 through 1977. John was inducted into the Archmere Academy Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

John continued his running career at the University of Delaware, where he earned six varsity letters in track and cross country. He was ranked among the Top 10 UD Cross Country performances at Sunken Meadow (NY) State Park and the Top 20 at Belmont Plateau, Philadelphia. He qualified for the 1980 NCAA Men’s Regional Cross-Country Championships. In 1978, John was the New Castle County Open Cross-Country Champion. In Track & Field, he ran the third fastest freshman 3,000 M Steeplechase ever in UD history, graduating among the Top 10 in university history. He was also a member of the school record-setting 4 x 1500-meter relay team. He was part of three consecutive East Coast Conference T&F Outdoor Championship teams.

After graduating from UD, John won many road races while representing the Pike Creek Valley Running Club. However, his greatest accomplishments include being the top Delaware finisher at the 1981 NYC Marathon and again at the 1983 and 1985 Boston Marathons. He set his PR at the 1984 Philadelphia Marathon with a time of 2:30, still among the Top 10 fastest by a Delawarean, ranking John as the 353rd fastest in the United States- just short of the qualifying standard for invitation to the 1984 Men’s Marathon Olympic Trials. In 1985, John ran one of the top five fastest 10,000 M times ever run by a Delawarean at 31:31.
