Rhondale J. Jones

Hall of Fame induction: 2009

Rhondale was an outstanding sprinter/hurdler at Delcastle. She was a four-time Indoor Athlete of the Year (‘95, ‘96, ‘97, ‘98) and a two-time Outdoor Athlete of the Year (‘97, ‘98). She set the still standing state record in the 200m dash at :24.17. She went on to Lincoln University where she was a sixteen-time All-American including nine individual titles from 1999-2001. She won three titles each in the 100m hurdles, the 100m dash, and the 200m dash. She currently holds the NCAA championship record for the 200m dash with a time of :23.72 set in 1999. She was named the NCAA Division III Most Outstanding Student-Athlete in track & field, an honor which was bestowed as part of the NCAA’s 25th Anniversary of Women’s Championships celebration and takes into account outstanding performances in NCAA championships over the past 25 years.

Art Madric

Art started the Wilmington Track Club in 1978 to help his daughter improve her performances. She became an outstanding athlete and earned a full scholarship to Temple. He has continued to work with hundreds of athletes develop to their fullest potential, mentoring outstanding individuals. He has coached at Sanford, Howard, and Glasgow with great success, coaching eleven indoor state track & field championships (eight girls’ and three boys’) and five outdoor championships (four girls’ and one boys’). He has been named the Coach of the Year six times for indoor track & field and two times for outdoor track & field. Art was the coach of Terri Dendy when she made the Olympic Team in 1988. Terri and a number of others have gone on to successful coaching careers, using principals learned from Coach Madric.

Art, himself, was a state champion in the long jump while a student at Wilmington High School in 1965 the same year Art won the long jump in the Meet of Champions which was contested at Abington High School in Philadelphia PA. Art believes his greatest accomplishment was developing and positioning athletes for college scholarships.

Ty Roberts

Hall of Fame induction: 2008

This Tower Hill grad is arguably one of the best jumpers in Delaware high school history. He won numerous state titles in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. In 1977, he was ranked the top high school sophomore in the country by Track & Field News with a triple jump of 49’ 2-1/2″ at the Atlanta Track Classic.

He won the New Castle Country long jump and triple jump three times each, and the state final long jump and triple jump twice each as well as the Penn Relays triple jump championship in 1979 with a jump of 47’ 9″. Ty is 13th (22’ 10-1/4″) on the All-Time high school long jump list and 2nd (49’ 2-1/2″) on the All-Time triple jump list. He also registered a 23’ 9″ wind-aided long jump in winning the state individual final in 1979.

Willie Savage

While competing for Cape Henlopen H. S., Willie won 10 gold medals (tying for 3rd place on the Delaware H.S. All-time Gold Medal List) at the Division II State Outdoor Championships. In 1994, he helped Cape win the Division II State Championship by winning 4 individual championships (110m HH in :14.86; 300m HH in :40.17; HJ at 6’6″; LJ at 21’ 3″). He has accumulated 14 State Champion gold medals: 10 gold medals outdoors and 4 gold medals indoors.

In 1992, he was the State Indoor Track “Athlete of the Year”. Willie’s versatility is shown by his records on the Delaware High School All-Time Performance Lists (Indoors: High Jump at 6’4″, 14th place tie; Long Jump at 22’ 0-3/4″, 15th place tie; Triple Jump at 46’ 3″, 9th place, and Outdoors: High Jump at 6’ 8-1/2″, 6th place; Triple Jump at 47’ 2-1/4″, 12th place).

Gerald A. Woolfolk

This 1967 graduate of A.I. DuPont High School competed mostly in the 100, 220 and high jump. In his senior year, he anchored the State Indoor Champion Mile Relay team and placed 4th in the 220 at the Outdoor State meet. After graduation he competed for Butler University where in most meets he participated in 6 events – 100, 200, high Jump,4 x 100 relay, long jump and triple jump. He qualified three times for the NCAA Championships, placing fifth in the long jump at the 1970 indoor championships.

His Butler U. records of 24’10-1/2″ indoor and 25’7″ outdoor in the long jump and 47’4-1/4″ indoor and 50’2″ outdoor in the triple jump still stand three decades later. He broke or tied more than forty track & field records during his four years at Butler University. He won Butler’s Andy William’s Award for leadership (1971), the Scott Ham Outstanding Track Athlete Award (1970 and 1971), and the Indiana Collegiate Conference (ICC) Track Man of the Year (1970 and 1971). In 1971, he was victorious in eight events in the ICC Championship Meet.

He was inducted into the Butler University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
